Copa Del Rey’s El Classico

Barcelona edged out Sevilla in their second leg tie just before they were matched with Europe’s Champions league defending champions and league rivals- los blancos. For a time and again this has been a match both team fans had a say in their comparison between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. With the departure of branded- CR7, to Italian league giants- Juventus, la liga has been left out for Messi and his battalion to make storms arise with whichever team they meet.

Real Madrid on the other hand have had tides swaying them from side to side currently sitting third on la liga table after a rough patching of scars. Their key man- Benzema has stepped up as their top goal scorer in this campaign and we would not be surprised if he would keep the fire burning for the catalan side.

The last time these two teams met, led to a humiliating thrashing at the Camp Nou. 5-1 was the end result. Now that Barcelona have a bounty on their head but still hosting the first leg fixture, maybe the hunter might be hunted later tonight. Unfortunately, Messi might start at the bench although included in the team list as the Argentine is hampered by a thigh problem.

Would Barca fall apart with their frequent dependence on their No.10? Well, we’ll have to save that for later as mystery unfolds in the 11pm scheduled fixture. We have seen this before, haven’t we? Messi on the sidelines watching helplessly as any ‘big or small’ team places them into tatters only to be introduced in the second half. Anyway, Champions league returns next week and this could still be a good way to rest their playmaker.

Gareth Bale has a lot to prove of himself after departure of CR7 and is still receiving backlash from their fans due to dismal performance. According to¬†Predrag Mijatovic, tonight’s match could be his last chance to prove his worth. What about you? Do you think he is right to condemn the Welshman?

My Pick

Once bitten twice shy is the adage running through the minds of los blancos players and fans thus an exhilarating forthcoming match is probably cooking. My pick; Barcelona win at full time.
