We got the pride for our young gunns. With the season opener we hoped for, I’ll give it to Arteta with a profound starting lineup including debutants star crossed with the fanbase. I can neither stress it enough that Saliba is a beast, nor can I emphasize how Zinchenko is bound to change the narrative for the left back position for most of the premier league clubs. With still a lot more to come in a long season ahead, crisscrossed with the Qatar World Cup, the big lad- William Saliba is proving to be ready for the tasks ahead.
Having played against this side- Palace severally during his Citizen years, there was only one foreseen outcome for this fixture. A win for the gunners and an assist for the PL gunner debutant saw the new lad get a perfect start of his career at Arsenal.
Newly-signed striker from City has had a dream of a start at Arsenal during their pre-season tour and already causing havoc to defense lines in the Premier league. A team player, a hard worker and serial winner; his stay at Arsenal is proving to be a great one as he comfortably joins his international compatriots and having a good relationship with Mikel and technical director- Edu Gaspar. He will surely be looking forward to opening his account against Leicester City at the Emirates this coming weekend.
The midfield boss had it all cut out with a sublime performance. A reminisce of Patrice in his prime. Thomas no doubt had the day cut out for the opposition, making it difficult to penetrate his mid. With the clean sheet, it’s fair to say the lack of sabotage from the midfield gave the gunners a low base defensive prowess with the overworking Gabriel and Saliba at the back.
With a tumultuous start of his career at Arsenal, it now evident that the young Brazilian international is ready to make his mark this season after his opener at Selhurst Park contributed to the gunners first win of a long season. A fit Martinelli is a huge boost and to the gunners and a thorough threat to opponents.
Having yet to feature in any fixture due to a minor injury, he is now slowly getting back on his feet with recent photos showing him training this week. The former Porto midfielder is highly rated and talented to provide competition in Arsenal’s attacking mid and adds an immense quality depth to the attacking mid.
Arsenal appropriately made the opener they so well deserved with a massive win away against their fellow Londoners- Crystal Palace. With the pre-season they had, no one had a doubt as to how they would turn up at the Selhurst Park and give a good account of their pre-season forte. After a mouth watering 6-0 thrashing of Sevilla in the Emirates cup, the young gunners sweetened the league curtain-raiser with a two-goal win. A clean sheet and a man of the match for the debutant- William Saliba to top it all off.
Newly promoted Fulham welcomed Liverpool to the Craven Cottage for an early kickoff as the visitors were forced to secure a point against the all firing Mitrovic with a late Salah equalizer. Welcome to the premier league! Tottenham eased past Soton with a 4-1 thrashing while newly promoted Nottingham Forrest got a beating away at Newcastle United.
The late kickoff saw Chelsea travel down to Merseyside as they played against Everton in a tough fixture that either side looked ready to split the points equally. A late challenge from Everton’s Doucoure brought down Ben Chilwell gifting a penalty to the blues with Jorginho swiftly sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0 is how it ended.
With more fixtures scheduled for this Sunday, it seemingly goes to show how well prepared these teams are. Manchester United currently two goals down against the visitors- Brighton only adds pain to injury with their ending fixture last season. Leicester on the other hand have a tougher opponent in Brentford and will be counting on the likes of Vardy to add more in their current 2-1 lead at home.
The defending champions- Manchester City will travel to London stadium as they start the new campaign against West Ham United.
As we await Arsenal’s first pre-season match against Nurnberg in Germany, we are delighted with the sweet-sour news about one of our very own- Wilshere. With such a turbulent career on the pitch, over regular injuries sidelining him severally, Jack has finally put out a statement indicating his recent move in his career.
Having spent his career at Arsenal, WestHam, Bournemouth and just recently Danish side- Aarhus last season. With the Danish club already announcing his departure from their team, it was unclear what his next move would be. With pleasure, the 30-year-old and former Hale End graduate has now gotten the honor of managing the Under-18s side and succeeding Dan Micciche who recently left for a different challenge at Crawley Town.
It is only befitting with his closeness to the club and having spent 17 years fighting for the badge and later leaving in 2018, taking on other challenges. His appointment is among a number of youth-level positions being finalised by the club. While working with the upcoming youngsters last season, undertaking his coaching badges at Arsenal, it is evident that he left quite an impression after this move.
His former teammate at Arsenal- and now manager for the Arsenal academy- Per Mertesacker is conducting the interviews and involved in the recruitment process of the several gapped positions in the youth-level.
With the transfer window officially open, the European market’s big boys have commenced the etchin’ and flexxin’ of their teams. One thing’s for sure, the gunners always taking it slow and all- a mechanism that rarely works, with a rather slightest chance of satisfying all sectors of the pitch. Don’t get this wrong, judging by the previous summer window, with the outs and ins, the young gunners started off slow only to surprise a whole lot of fans as they picked up quick only to flap their wings close to the sun. The dream for top four lasted long enough and with the young guns stumbling over the finish line only to settle for a European position they had craved for.
Now headed into the 2022-23 season, the young guns should be busy sorting out contracts and incorporate some of their loanees into the squad if their services are need. However, business been slow compared to their noisy rivals. The likes of City and Liverpool have done it again. With just a point being the difference between the winner and runner-up in the just ended season, they have already hungrily pounced on the best of forwards in Europe ready to add more sauce to the already tough league.
Arteta’s men will be extra challenged with the Europa league now in their yard. Hard to say, but with the congestion of fixtures in the league, they will not only need additions to their squad but also quality and mentally strong squad players who will prevail through the good and bad days on the pitch.
With the slight glimmer of hope having already acquired the services of Marquinhos- Sao Paolo’s bright star, the fans will be edged on their seats, notifications on and constantly refreshing feeds for another new signing or departure. Whichever comes first.
Crucial weeks ahead with the likes of Youri Tielemans, Gabriel Jesus among others most likely ending up at the Emirates. We’ll sit back and enjoy as the dramas unravel. Not forgetting, this is a world cup year.
